Website removed from Bing search results?

I was doing a bit of work today on a couple of websites, including this one and noticed a drop in traffic from Bing. Initially I thought this might be related to the website re-design which was rolled out February 6th. However it looks like the problem goes back to November, when traffic suddenly dropped off. De-indexing looks like it started January 16th and was complete 4th of February with now no pages from dasmirnov....

Is PhenoFX a scam crypto website? Yes, don't get scammed

Someone I know recently got scammed by an alleged crypto trading platform, after seeing a fake advert/article claiming Elon Musk had invested $12 million into this new trading platform. They knew I was into crypto, so probably thought they’d be willing to yolo £50 into Bitcoin and see what happens, of course the sensible thing would have been to talk to me about it and use my referral links for actual crypto exchanges....

Coinbase and account under review

Quick blog post of my experiences of using Coinbase this year. Signed up in early January as I needed somewhere to exchange some cryptocurrency, submitted my required ID and waited, and waited. A month later I submit a support ticket, get a generic stock answer, explain how they’re busy and it’ll be reviewed when they can. Ticket closed, despite issue not resolved. Fair enough, I wait another two months and submit another support ticket asking how long this will take and if there is anyway they can expedite this....

Workaround for raytracing performance issues in Minecraft

I’ve been playing a bit of Minecraft this weekend and noticed much worse raytracing performance than previously. After a bit of investigation it looks like a regression was introduced with 1.16.220 which has substantially reduced performance, dropping from around 90+fps to 30ish, this is on an RTX 3080 with DLSS turned on at 3440x1440. After a bit of troubleshooting it looks like its related to v-sync, changing: gfx_vsync:1 to gfx_vsync:0...

CityFibre/Zen 900Mbps install and initial impressions

In 2020 CityFibre started digging up parts of Worthing to install Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), they sell this wholesale to ISPs, similar to BT Openreach. Their network allows for gigabit-ish speeds. The main difference for consumers however is CityFibre offer a symmetrical connection for residential and not just business customers, so around 900Mbps down and up. In comparison BT Openreach FTTP residential packages offer around 900Mbps down and 100Mbps up....

Remark42 on Apache without a subdomain

I've recently been porting a fairly substantial website over to a static generator from a CMS, I've wanted to maintain a commenting system on it however as it is still fairly active. So I decided to use Remark42 as its self-hosted and pretty powerful, plus still under development. One of the areas not well documented was running it on Apache without a subdomain. I figured it would be easier to run it under a folder, and not have to worry about getting Let's Encrypt through a proxy for SSL renewals....

Increasing view distance with raytracing enabled in Minecraft

One of the main reasons for getting a GeForce RTX 3080 last year was for Minecraft, so I can play with raytraced/RTX lighting enabled. I was expecting to take a substantial hit in draw distance - with RTX disabled I’d always play with at least a 64 chunk draw distance. Disappointingly the maximum view distance in Minecraft with raytracing enabled is only 24 chunks, at least as far as setting it in the user interface....

Perseverance successfully lands on Mars

After traveling since July 2020, the new Perseverance rover has successfully landed on Mars. Hopefully it'll go on to be as successful as Pathfinder's Sojourner rover, Spirit, Opportunity and the still active Curiosity. First photos from Perseverance Only low-resolution images from its engineering cameras have been transmitted back, but they're enough to confirm its safely on the surface.

How to uninstall Adobe Flash

After twenty four years Adobe Flash today reached end-of-life, and the product is no longer supported. If you're using Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome or most other browsers, their respective developers have already released updates that disabled it. However if Adobe Flash has been installed manually, or pre-installed by your PC manufacturer its possible you'll get this prompt appear: Adobe Flash end-of-life It's probably worth checking in Settings -> Apps and seaching in there for Adobe Flash and uninstalling it....
