Flight Simulator X

It should be with us at the end of the year. Now where's the beta?

Age of Empires 3 opinions

I was expecting it to be much more Mythology style of gameplay, which put me off as I really couldn't get on with Mythology at all. Upon starting the demo I encountered a wow moment, the tune from the AoK playing, bringing back very fond memories! Awesome start. First order of business was going into graphic options and turning everything up, I fire it into a widescreen resolution, wow it really is widescreen!...

News Corporation buy IGN

Time to boycott Murdoch and his crap, now he's invading the internet by buying the largest game-information network there is. So long Gamespy and IGN see you in my browsers history folder sometime.

Xbox 360 price thoughts

Well it's £209.99 in the UK, very cheap for a next-generation console and a controller, the full pack at £279.99 isn't too bad either. However making the hard drive non-standard was a very unwise discussion in my opinion and leaves the door open to Sony to include one as standard and gives them ammunition in the fight. But at least in the financial conditions they're in they can't compete on price....

Carmack on the next generation

Gamespy: The godfather of modern 3D gaming speaks out about development on the Xbox 360 and the PS3 as well as the tribulations of tomorrow's developers. Carmack's platform of choice for console development is the Xbox 360, and he explained why ... the Xbox 360 was designed to have a very thin API layer. In Carmack's words, he can "basically talk directly to the hardware ... doing exactly what I want....

I very nearly had it this time

Time for a Silent Hunter 3 mission report. November 1942 - about 200 kms south-east of Newfoundland. I ran into a convoy heading east-north-east with 4-5 escorts doing about 5 knots. Up until this point I've not had much trouble evading destroyers. That changed on the morning of the 22nd - it took me 7 hours to slip away, and not without a seriously bashed up boat. At 21:14 on the 21st I engaged the convoy, slipping along side the central row and fired a torpedo into two T2 tankers, blowing each one sky high, while firing another two into a T3, which went down within minutes....

Forza reviews!

EGM 9.5, 10 and 10 out of 10. Better than Gran Turismo 4. I figured I'd write that when I reviewed Gran Turismo 5 one day, but this is Forza Motorsport, Microsoft's homage to the greatest driving sim around. Except the student has already lapped the teacher. 1UP 10 out of 10. I watched him take up the controller and gun the car from first to third off the line. The very first words out of his mouth were, "...

Silent Hunter 3

What a totally awesome game. Kudos to Ubisoft for seeing it through and giving the team the resources they needed to get the job done. The best naval simulator ever, anyone who wants something a bit different to the flood of FPS and similar games should at least check this one out. It's been years since I've sat down and played a game as much.

Billy Wilson dead at 33

Billy Wilson the guy who practically made Voodoo Extreme into what it once was died yesterday age 33. This is a major bummer. When he and Sharky were running Voodoo Extreme it totally rocked. I first discovered Voodoo Extreme when I got my old 3Dfx card way back in the day, it was really the site that built the gamer/hardware enthusiasts community that has spread over the whole globe and hundreds if not thousands of active sites that we have today....

GT4 verdict

I've spent some time with the just released uber-hyped Gran Turismo 4. What an absolute load of crap. PD claim it's the driving simulator? Simulator where? It's an absolute joke, there's no damage at all. You can ram into things all day and not get penalized for it, you wanna use another car to get you around the corner? Yup you can, come on even Sega GT nailed something as simple as that....
