I just want to say something generally about 'Windows XP's out-look and all those new Microsoft's operating systems out-looks, along with designs of all those useless colorfull (sticks-in-the-eye) applications different 'sale managers' of all those small software manufacturers try to 'marketing'. (I write this maybe even in hope that someone from the Microsoft will (somehow?) notice it, or that someone might bring atention of the Microsoft's people to this text).
It really bother's me. Why do they make program's panels so meaninglessly colorfull - the sole purpose of the program is to execute a desired process the best way there can be, NOT TO: 'ENTERTAIN THE EYE'. All this pop-culture cyber-mumbo-jumbo adaptations of everything regarding computers and all of the branches regarding it, in order to make it more succeptible to the quasi-modernistic morons in this world MAKES ME SICK.
It's like somebody in Microsoft recieved a data that people like that everything is so colorfull and with all those numerous non-sense details. It's wrong - you just make it look complex - make the eye tired of it all - confused with pointelss details.
Program's command panels should be simple (approximately the way they look with Windows 95 and 98). There's no point in making different design (it's stupid). The maximum level of design's usefullnes is reached (with Windows 95: - you've got options, controles, buttons and window which perfectly (e.i. simple and effective) frame the unit of the program itself or its part(s)) - there is no purpose of going further. Tell me - what is the purpose of rounded corner of the window?! OR multi coloured window frame. Moronic.
OK - I know - you can change the settings to "Windows classic", but still there are all sorts of programs which persist on this idiotic concept of "colorfull design". Also - you can't change (or don't want to bother) with those new icons and those little button pictures - all so specifically mild-colored, with wide palete, color-fading - sort-of - GIRLY look...
Program on the outside must look proffesional and to the point; with simple signs which represent functions, and options based on words (not graphical representations). Simple interface. To serve the purpose and leave the eye in peace.
