The worst thing about Blu-ray

The zealots, the fanboys and the FUD. The HD DVD camp is made up more of normal people, not these nerds who go around foaming at the mouths when somebody says something they don't like.

So my blog has been linked to on the BD forums and I've got a few comments in the moderation queue from any BD fanboys. Mostly nonsense about me being in Europe so why do I care about American announcements instead of IFA (where they announced I was getting five free films!), last time I checked the format war was international, and HD DVD was region free. Or how Fox are releasing 30 titles this year, wow Fox, they're known for their quality stuff aren't they. So I'm still debating if I should publish this stuff, after all, why should I be helping BD fanboys prolong the format war, they've got enough outlets to spew their propaganda they don't need my blog. Heck maybe I should tell them about my forums, where 100% of the people voted for HD DVD.

Why do you guys support such an anti-consumer format? The CD and the DVD were such huge successes because there was no format war, so why do you allow Sony to splinter off and create a format war? What does that do, keep prices higher by slowing adoption of the format. Then it comes to increased copy-protection and region locking, which IMO was one of DVD's greatest weaknesses, no doubt forced on by the likes of Disney and Sony. People buy films in different countries, with HD DVD they can be sure it'll work on their players no matter what. Let's also keep in mind that HD DVD is a finished product, Blu-ray is still under development, and normal people aren't going to like their $1000 BD players being made obsolete by BD 1.1 when that starts making an appearance over the next 6 months or so.

I know you guys have gone into FUD and propaganda overdrive since you were dealt a huge blow by Paramount and Dreamworks dumping Blu-ray, but come on, you're only putting people off BD with your ranting. Blu-ray has lost the ability to win the format war now, it's time for everybody to end it now, before we the consumers are forced to waste money on the more expensive dual-format players.

I invite the BD fanboys to bin their Blu-ray collections and join with HD DVD to end the format war this year, so the consumer wins and not greedy corporations like Fox and Sony.

The format war is no longer between HD DVD and Blu-ray. HD DVD has done enough that it can't lose now, the question now is can HD DVD finish off Blu-ray so we can get prices down and have mainstream adaption sooner rather than later, or will both formats continue to exist and the consumer is screwed by having to spend the extra money on a dual-format player. The format war at this point is between HD DVD and dual-format.

If I remember correctly HD DVD has started from a 100% marketshare and now has a 35% marketshare..to BLu-rays 75% goodluck with "winning" the format war this year..

But yes I agree if you take out what the PS 3 adds to the equation (and god knows why since the 360 add-on is included) then it comes down to Standalone player sales. Which again correct me if I'm wrong but has'nt Blu-ray now overtaken HD DVD in standalone player sales for the last 3 months running..

Oh and... I'm a Dual format owner... not a "fanboy"... good luck spinning that one into FUD..

Not approving comments? Well it is your prerogative. But you did, after all, enter into this format war guns blazing slamming the competition. Don't be surprised when others enter to debate you.

Not shocking that you won't display comments that challenge your one-sided posts that seem to be typical of your blogs.

I would invite you to visit AVS forums. There you will see HD DVD fanboys in action. I also agree with other comments that you are not seeing your own personal bias. I assume that we are all adults here but your comments about the format war have been quite childish I'm afraid.

I of course have a bias, after staying neutral for about a year, HD DVD hit a price point worth buying, as I've invested money in the format, and as HD DVD is more consumer friendly than Blu-ray I want HD DVD to win the format war. I however will not outright lie or bend the truth in order to do it.

Can anyone explain how HD DVD is more consumer friendly than Blu-ray. As far as I know I insert the movie in my player (HD DVD or Blu-ray) and enjoy the movie. Am I missing something?

Better price! Better quality! More features, Interactive Menus, HD-DVD DVD Combo format and many more reasons why people should support HD-DVD instead of Blu-ray.... Blu-ray sucks!!! What's wrong with the studios???
