Putting my money into HD DVD
I've decided I'm going to put my money where my mouth is and join in fighting this whole format war thing. *Sigh*.
The Xbox 360 HD DVD drive is only £100, so even if over the next few years we end up seeing dual-format players taking off it's not that big of a loss.
No I don't see HD DVD going anywhere, I just don't see Sony ever supporting HD DVD and will, if it comes down to it, try and run alone with Blu-ray. Thanks a lot Sony for dividing the market, slowing uptake, keeping prices high and screwing everyone over.
Anyway, what sealed the deal was Paramount going over to HD DVD exclusively. Most of the films in my tiny film collection are Universal and Paramount, both of which are now exclusively HD DVD.
On top of that we had the sales data from last month showing HD DVD has 74% marketshare in Europe, and for the second quarter HD DVD hardware sales increased 37% on the first, film sales increased 20%, while Blu-ray hardware was down 27% and film sales were down 5%.

You should be sarcastically thanking Paramount for prolonging the format war. Before their utterly stupid move last week an end was in sight to this complete mess.
Also, those Europe figures aren't counting PS3 sales - which believe it or not, people are buying for Blu-ray. Not everyone, but a majority.
Now, unless something else drastic happens then I don't think there ever will be an end... just dual format players, so yet again more confusion and cost to the end consumer.
I'll repeat my thanks for Sony again, thanks for introducing your own format despite being a member of the DVD Forum, thanks for dividing the market with another one of your dying formats.
There is nothing factual or concrete about that statement. That's blind assumption and couldn't be any further from the truth.
The HD DVD Promo Group is desperate and it shows. When it comes down to it, Paramount was shown a suitcase full of money so they could secure the rights to the only titles that were actually hits in 2007: Shrek and Transformers. Universals releases in 2007 weren't going to cut the mustard going into the holidays. HD DVD is in trouble heading into the 4th quarter. The HD DVD Promo Group knows this, media insiders know this and numbers don't lie. "Putting my money on HD DVD?" I'd rather put my money on a 3 legged race horse.

Stephen Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, and Ridley Scott have all spoken out about blu-rays superiority. What producers have done so concerning hd-dvd? Roger Ebert of the Ebert + Roeper movie review tv show stated, "Why does Sony always seem to have the best format, and get bullied?"
You can back hd-dvd, but set aside some money for when it is gone and you have to go blu.
