The awesomeness of the cosmos

The Summer Triangle, and the Milky Way beyond

Took this last night, with my Canon 350D and an 18mm lens piggy backed on my TAL 2M with a 184 second exposure @ ISO 800.

Thousands and thousands of stars and a glow across the sky from millions and millions of stars. How many other civilisations exist within this one frame?

And how disappointing it is that light travelling for thousands of years gets swamped by the few thousand lights of Yeovil.

Nice pic.

You think Yeovil blocks out a lot of stars, you should see Phoenix at night. You can barely see any stars. It sucks. I like going back to visit my parents in Lake Havasu (which is a small town) because there are no street lights and you can see a countless amount of stars.

Very interesting photograph. Nothing beats a nice view of the night sky. The clouds pretty much destroy any chance I have of seeing it though. I'm sure you're familiar with the Hubble Deep Field image? I love that one...
