Animation still their weak spot

As much as Oblivion rocks and looks amazing. We're still seeing Bethesda's weakness when it comes to animation dampening the experience.

Overall the animation is poor, but the real salt in the wound is the 4 legged animals, in the E3 footage they simply turn around on the spot - I had hoped this would be fixed, but after seeing new footage showing horses. It's not.

Kameo showed what good animation can do for a game - it makes it look believable and real, seeing a horse turn on the spot while doing the regular walking animation blows the experience.

Bethesda please hire some more animators to patch up animation as much as possible for the first expansion. It's just gutting for such an awesome game to have such a tiny flaw that sticks out so much.

I agree with you dude. Also, the NPC's riding the horse's look kinda stiff.

Oooo Evil Dead Ransom?

And I agree, the horses really don't walk as fluidly as they should do.

Hey Paul you should look at the animation of Shadow of the Colussus, the horse moves more like a horse :P.

The animation on the horse in Shadow of the Colussus is almost flawless. Incredible work on that front, and even better than the horse stuff in Kameo.

Still, this is a disappointment. This supposedly immersive world can be broken by something as little as this, and this might push me to get the PC version over the 360 one just to see if someone tweaks the animation in a mod or if they fix it in an expansion.

With next Gen Games, perfect animation is critical. I can't believe all we can see in Oblivion. They should have remove the 3rd person camera just to avoid having to see the run cycle... The rats running is just poor understanding of animation. I'm working on DS Titles as lead animator and we are expecting so much more for our animations. Shame on you bad next-gen animators!
